OUR STORY

About Us

Gospel Baptist Church was conceived while Rev Shadrach Vegah was Senior Pastor of Nkwen Baptist Church. He resigned from Nkwen Baptist Church to pursue further studies and mentoring in Church planting at The NETS Institute for Church Planting in Vermont, U.S.A. In July 2010, Rev Shadrach Vegah and family returned to Cameroon to lay the groundwork for the planting of Gospel Baptist Church. The process of planting Gospel Baptist Church started in August 2010 with meeting the Board of Deacons of Musang Baptist church to request their support and partnership for the church plant. After meeting with the Board, 10 Evangelistic Bible Study leaders were recruited for training. The training started from September to November 2010. In December 2010, the Evangelistic Bible Study leaders planted over ten Evangelistic Bible Study groups in the targeted area of the Church plant. The Evangelistic Bible Study groups had a weekly average attendance of over one hundred persons. In March 2011, we began the Core Group meetings of Gospel Baptist Church in the house of Mr and Mrs Bomnsa Thaddeus. In these meetings, we prayed, planned and cast the vision of Gospel Baptist Church. We had 80 Core Group members. See list of Core Group Members of GBC.

Projects and Ministries

Ongoing Ministries

NETS Africa Center for Church Planting and Revitalization

  • The NETS Africa Center for Church Planting and Revitalization recruits and mentors young Seminary graduates in Church Planting and Revitalization. They are mentored in the context of GBC and NETS Africa church plants. Interns/Mentees are given practical skills in Preaching the Gospel from every Bible book, Church Administration and Strategic Planning, Biblical Theology, Church Planting, Church Health and Revitalization, Men’s Ministry in the local church, Marriage/Ministry, Fundraising and Resource mobilization, etc. Interns for Church Revitalization are assisted to get churches to serve in after their internship. We hope to commence the mentoring of pastoral couples as soon as the permanent building is up with the parsonages attached to it. Young seminary graduates apply for internship in NETS Africa Center and the applications are screened and approved. Church Revitalization interns spend 3-6 months in training while Church Planting interns spend 1-2 years in training.

Evangelism/Outreach & Short Term Mission Trips

  • Each year GBC mobilizes her technicians and members to reach out to small and weak churches especially those in the rural areas. We spend about three days helping such churches with building construction or repair works. We serve and work during the day and share the gospel/counsel in the evenings. It is an opportunity to strengthen the faith of our members as well as bless weak struggling churches. Such projects pave the way for church revitalization to commence in most cases.
  •

Christian Education/Discipleship Ministry

  • One component of our mission statement is “making Disciples.” The Christian Education and Discipleship ministry seeks to achieve this component through our various Quarter Bible Study groups, Small Discipleship groups, Church School groups and Gospel Bible Institute. Currently there are 25 Quarter or Home Bible Study groups spread around the various neighbourhoods of the church. There are 30 Small Discipleship groups in GBC and these are not based on geographical location of members. There are 8 Church School groups in GBC. Gospel Bible Institute is a leadership development programme and meets every Sunday afternoon from 2-5pm.

Praise & Prayer Ministry

  • “A praying Church is a powerful church and a praying Christian is a powerful Christian.” Without a strong commitment to prayer, it will be impossible to produce committed disciples of Jesus Christ as well as achieve the mission and vision of GBC. The church has a weekly prayer bulletin known as “GBC Prayer Bulletin.” Members are encouraged to pray through the prayer points in the weekly prayer bulletin as individuals, family and in various Bible Study groups. There is a corporate Praise and Prayer Meeting every Monday morning from 8.30am to 9.30am (due to the ghost towns on Mondays).
  •

Music in Worship Ministry

  • In GBC we love Traditional/Cultural music with traditional instruments as well as contemporary music with modern instruments. Our worship services have a blend of the two. We have two main standing choirs – Gospel English Choir and Gospel Vernacular Choir. There is the Gospel Music Institute that trains Christian youths on the norms of Church Music, how to read and write music at a very basic level as well as play music instruments. Gospel Music Institute meets every Saturday from 2pm to 4.30pm.
  •

Stewardship & Fundraising Ministry

  • Planting church planting churches is a mammoth task. It requires enormous financial and material resources. The church is always in need of financial resources to achieve her projects as well as fulfill the Great Commission. The Fundraising Ministry seeks to mobilize financial and material resources through educating, motivating and inspiring GBC members. They complement the Pastors’ teachings and preaching on stewardship and giving.

Visitors’ Ministry

  • “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” (Heb 13:2) GBC Visitors’ Ministry seeks to minister to visitors, strangers and first timers who visit us on Sundays and other meetings. Through this ministry we locate those who want to join the church or those who love to support our vision. We also discover those who need salvation through the gospel as well as those in critical physical needs. Visitors’ Ministry meet with our visitors very briefly immediately after the worship service.

Widows & Orphans Ministry

  • “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”(Jas 1:27) Through this ministry, GBC seeks to minister to her widows and orphans. The Widows’ Ministry meets every third Sunday of the month immediately after worship service for prayers, encouragement and service.

Hospital and the Sick Ministry

  • “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.” (Jas 5:14) This ministry seeks to minister to the seek in the church and in the community. Members of the ministry pray with sick members of GBC and also visit and pray with patients in health clinics and hospitals around the church premises. They also offer brief devotions and share gospel tracts as well as some small material support when necessary and if available.

Multi-media Ministry

  • This ministry seeks to ensure that the sound system of the church functions well and helps to place the church in the lime light in the multi-media space.

Wealth Creation & Economic Empowerment Ministry

  • “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” 2 Thess 3:10. “You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today” Deut 8:18. We live in a country with an unemployment rate of over 40%. This ministry seeks to encourage the unemployed and partially employed to be productive and creative. It helps Christian youths to be willing to work and generate income for themselves and also support the church.

Projects/Maintenance/Repairs Ministry

  • This ministry is responsible for infrastructural projects of the church as well as the maintenance/repairs of the church building and equipments.
